US Students: Dates and Deadlines:

March - April:

Students should be developing their projects in consultation with their major academic advisers and the Faculty Fulbright Adviser, Prof. McDevitt. This would be a great time to begin to make contacts with academics who might be able and willing to write a letter of affiliation in the country you hope to visit.

May 1, 2007:

The 2008-2009 competition officially opens. Students may now begin to enter their applications online.

Campus deadline: September 24, 2007

By this date your application and all of your supporting material – including: letters of reference, letter of affiliation, language proficiency report and official transcripts -- must be submitted electronically and in hard copy to the Faculty Fulbright Adviser.

First week in October:

The Campus Committee will meet and interview all applicants.

Mid-October:

The Faculty Fulbright Adviser will officially submit the applications.

November and December: National Screening Committee Review (NSC)

Specialists in various fields and area studies meet and recommend candidates for further consideration. Letters will be sent to applicants at the end of January and will indicate if an applicant is recommended to the host country or not.

February - June:

Host Country Review. Applications of recommended candidates are transmitted to the supervising agencies abroad for further review, particularly with regard to placement at foreign universities.

Final selection for Fulbright Grants is made by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB), taking into account the recommendations of the NSC, availability of funds, approval of the supervising agencies abroad, and other program requirements.

Final selection letters will be sent between mid-March and late June Fellowships abroad must begin between July 2008 and March 2009. Actual dates vary by country . See the individual country summary for details
